Chinese Black Lacquered Low Altar Console Table with Drawers, Late Qing to Early Republic Period
$1,400
Antiques & Decorative Arts · circa 1880–1920 (Late Qing Dynasty to Early Republic Period)
A compact Chinese black-lacquered low altar console or kang-style table dating to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republican period, circa 1880–1920. The piece features a rectangular overhanging top, two tiers of drawers (three small upper drawers and one full-width lower drawer) fitted with period iron ring-pull hardware, and characteristic curved bracket-form legs with spandrel feet typical of provincial Chinese joinery. The black lacquer finish shows honest age-related wear and crazing consistent with its purported age, revealing warm amber wood tones at the edges — a desirable indicator of genuine patina rather than artificial distressing.
