Korean Bandaji Blanket Chest, Elmwood with Wrought Iron Hardware
$1,400
Antiques & Decorative Arts · Late Joseon Dynasty, circa 1880–1920
A substantial antique Korean bandaji (blanket/storage chest) dating to the late Joseon Dynasty, circa 1880–1920, constructed of elmwood with a warm honey-to-amber patina consistent with age and use. The chest is fitted with profuse hand-forged wrought iron hardware including a central decorative lock plate with hasp, corner reinforcements, hinge straps, diamond-shaped studs, and ring pulls — all characteristic of late 19th-century Korean provincial craftsmanship. The piece appears to be in good decorative condition with honest age-related wear; the drop-front panel design typical of bandaji style is visible, making it functional as both a storage chest and side table.
