Pair of Chinese Carved Hardwood Architectural Panels with Figural Scenes and Openwork Lattice

$2,345

Antiques & Decorative Arts · Qing Dynasty, 19th Century (circa 1800–1900)

A matched pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty architectural door or screen panels, each featuring a multi-register composition with deeply carved and pierced openwork lattice surrounds centering figural relief medallions—one circular and one square—depicting court figures and scholars in garden or architectural settings. The dark lacquered ground contrasts with the warm hongmu-toned carved inserts, and each panel is surmounted by a brass ruyi-form hanging bracket. The quality of the multi-layered openwork, the narrative figural carving, and the intact original hardware indicate skilled provincial workshop production, most likely from Guangdong or Zhejiang province.
