Chinese Red and Black Lacquered Four-Section Stacking Cabinet with Gilt Floral Decoration

$2,975

Antiques & Decorative Arts · Early to Mid 20th Century, circa 1920–1950

A tall, four-section Chinese stacking cabinet finished in vermilion red lacquer with black lacquered door panels hand-painted in gold and polychrome with floral and bird motifs — including peonies, prunus blossoms, lotus, and butterflies — each panel framed by a gilt fret border. The cabinet retains its original brass butterfly hinges and corner mounts, and rests on a bracketed foot base consistent with early 20th-century Chinese export and domestic production. Each of the four stacking sections opens independently via hinged fall-front or door panels, suggesting use as a document or storage cabinet. There is attractive honest wear to the lacquer surface consistent with age, including some gilt loss to the red frame areas, but the painted black panels remain vivid and well-preserved.
