Chinese Red Lacquer Octagonal Box Lid with Incised Dragon Decoration and Blanc de Chine Figural Group on Lacquer Base (Lot of 2)
$700
Antiques & Decorative Arts · Late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period, circa 1880–1930
This lot comprises two related Chinese decorative objects: a red lacquered octagonal lid with incised silver-toned dragon motifs across each panel, consistent with late Qing/Republic-period export or scholar's desk wares, and an octagonal black lacquered box base with a hardwood surround that serves as a display housing for a small Blanc de Chine porcelain figural group on a carved hardwood stand. The lid's incised (rather than deeply carved) dragon decoration and the flat-painted silver pigment are characteristic of the more affordable decorative lacquerware produced for the export and domestic market in the late 19th–early 20th century, distinguishing it from the more valuable carved cinnabar examples. The Blanc de Chine figure, depicted as an animated figural group (possibly Guanyin or immortals), is a classic Dehua-style ware and adds collecting interest to the ensemble.
